China's New Energy Vehicles Sales Surpass 40% of Country's Total Auto Sales

China sold 11.26 million new energy vehicles (NEVs)in the first 11 months of2024, taking over 40% of total vehicle salesin the country for the first time, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

CAAM data shows that China produced 11.35 million new energy vehicles (NEVs) and sold 11.26 million in the first 11 months of the year, marking year-on-year increases of 34.6% and 35.6%, respectively. November alone saw both production and sales exceed 1.5 million units.

"This marks a key milestone for the industry," said Chen Shihua, Deputy Secretary General of CAAM. "For the first time, NEV sales surpassed 40% of total auto sales, and we expect the market to maintain its positive momentum through December."

Experts cite China's leadership in battery development and EV charging infrastructure as key factors behind the growth.The country's advancements in power battery development have enhanced the efficiencyand reliabilityof EVs, while an expanding network of charging stations has boosted consumer confidence and adoption.

China leads the world in EV charging infrastructure, with the largest and most comprehensive network of charging stations, providing extensive coverage and serving the highest number of vehicles globally.

With continued investment on technology R&D andinfrastructure expansion, China is poised to remainat the forefront of the global shift to greener mobility.
