As a firefighter who has been to many kitchen fires. Do this&#;

FIRST. Call 911 or whatever your emergency number is.

2nd Call 911

3rd Call 911

4th Get everyone out of the home before trying to put out the fire. This will be the 1st question the FD will ask you ie is everyone out or where are they? Remember the FD duty is find everyone and then fight the fire. Telling them you do not know will significantly delay fire operations and expose firefighters to unnecessary risk.

5th make sure your exit is not blocked before using the extinguisher or fire blanket. If so leave the area and exit the home let the FD take care of it.

6th Start using the extinguisher from a distance NOT into a pan of burning oil. Too close you spread the fire quickly.

7th Call 911

8th make sure you have smoke detectors in each bedroom, hallways and basement. The best all alarm regardless of the fire location.

If you have a volunteer fire department you may have a delay in responding. I am a volunteer in a department that runs fire calls a year. We have volunteer firefighters who live at the firehouse as a result we have a quick response. Some departments do this but some do not. Ask your FD questions and staffing levels.

Do not take what I am saying as do not fight the fire. I have been to many fires controlled or extinguished by a single fire extinguisher. I have also been to fires where they went through 4-5 extinguisher&#;s before call us!

What is the Lifespan of a Fire Blanket?

Fire blankets play a critical role in suppressing small fires and safeguarding lives and property. Understanding the lifespan of different materials is essential for effective fire safety planning.

What is the lifespan of a Silicone Fire Blanket?
Silicone fire blankets are renowned for their exceptional durability and longevity. Composed of high-quality silicone-coated fiberglass, these blankets can withstand extreme temperatures and repeated use. With proper care and maintenance, silicone fire blankets can last up to 10 years or more, providing reliable protection over an extended period.

What is the lifespan of a Fiberglass Fire Blanket?
In contrast, fiberglass fire blankets, woven from glass fibers, offer reliable fire suppression capabilities but have a shorter lifespan. Typically lasting between 3 to 7 years, fiberglass blankets require regular inspection and replacement to ensure optimal performance.

What is the lifespan of a Wool Fire Blanket?
Wool fire blankets, crafted from flame-resistant wool fibers, provide effective protection against small fires. With natural fire-retardant properties, wool blankets can smother flames and reduce oxygen supply effectively. While wool blankets offer durability, their lifespan ranges from 5 to 8 years, requiring periodic replacement to maintain efficacy.
