Waterline tile question w/pic

Thought I'd be able to chose a waterline tile for our pool remodel, but it's all boiling down to asking existing pool owners what their thoughts are - so here I am.

You will get efficient and thoughtful service from Longart Mosaic.

The plaster in the pool will be white and the newly redone deck is concrete. I thought some sort of smooth marine blue was going to be my choice, but now that I've seen all of the beautiful natural stone looking tiles available, I'm torn. One side says smooth tile is easier to keep clean - the other side is: Don't worry about it.

If any of you have a textured stone type tile - what has been your experience with keeping the lime/calcium buildup off the tile?

I welcome all thoughts - I'm choosing soon. Here is a shot of the pool undergoing rehab....

A Complete Guide To Select The Best Pool Tile For Your ...

Making a spectacular pool design for your own pool is everyone&#;s dream. Keeping this in mind, we have compiled this easy-to-follow guide to help you. You can use this to choose the best pool tile for your swimming pool design and interior. This guide will help you even if it is your first time building a pool and buying pool tiles. So without any further delay, let&#;s dive deep into the guide!

Effective Steps To Choose The Best Pool Tile For Your Pool Area

Pool tiles make the basic foundation of your swimming pool. So, you obviously have many questions and concerns at the time of the purchase of tiles. This guide will help you eliminate these concerns as you follow the steps. First of all, you will have to determine which part of your pool you want to tile or retile.

1: Determine Which Part Of Your Pool You Want To Tile

The first step is to see which part of your pool you want to tile or retile. There are two places in your pool where you can lay tiles.

  • The first one is the waterline area. This area serves as the finish of your pool. It is typically three inches above and three inches below the water level.

  • The second one is the inlaid area. These tiles are laid on the walls, floors, stairs, and benches of the pool

You can choose different tiles for both of these areas well. If you are renovating your pool, you can also retile only one area to add some new sparkle to your pool interior.

2: Decide Your Budget For Swimming Pool Tile

The next step is to decide your estimated budget for tiles. This depends on a lot of factors. Some include the size of your pool and what area of your pool you want the tiles to be laid at. You can go for ceramic or porcelain tiles if you have a larger pool and a small budget.

TIP:

You will benefit in the short term if you prioritize cost over quality. But it will prove expensive in the future. So, look for quality tiles even if your budget is small.

3: Prioritize Safety Over The Appearance Of Tile For Pool

Always prioritize the safety of the tiles over their appearance. Why? Because if your tiles are unsafe to use, they can hurt you. For Example: If they are not slip-resistant, you can slip and get injured in your pool. So, the best pool tile for you is the one that provides safety first and a good appearance second.

TIP:

Choosing an anti-slip pool tile is the best option to avoid any accidents.

4: Prioritize The Quality And Durability Of Tile

Always put the quality of your pool tiles on top. Even though high-quality tiles cost more upfront, they cost less in the long run. Why? Because they are durable and low-maintenance and this keeps your expenses low.

TIP:

Spending a bit more on pool tiles for top quality will last you a lifetime of intact and beautiful pool tiles.

5: Compare Different Swimming Pool Tile Materials

A lot of tile materials are available in pool tiles. Each tile material has its own advantages and drawbacks. You have to keep them in mind at the time of purchase. The most popular tiles are glass tiles, porcelain tiles, natural stone tiles, and ceramic tiles.

TIP:

Consider the people who will use the pool when you choose the tile materials. For example, glass tiles are not a good option if kids will use the pool.

6: Choose The Suitable Tile Size For Your Pool

The tile size matters a lot. Why? Because each tile size can cover different types of areas. The best pool tile is the one that suits your pool space the best. Larger pool tiles can cover a wide pool area but they can break over time due to changing temperatures. Instead smaller tiles are a better option because they do not break easily and they cover small and narrow pool spaces.

7: Look At Different Tile Styles Before Final Decision

Many styles are available in swimming pool tiles. You can easily find a style that you like if you look through these options. You can make unique designs with your pool tiles that only exist in your pool. With this, your pool will stand apart from others.

TIP:

Creative and beautiful styles can be created if you choose small-sized tiles.

8: Stick To A Theme Or A Color Palette

You have to choose a single theme for your pool area and then follow it throughout. If you do not want to follow a singular theme, you can choose a color palette and go with it.

TIP:

Do not use more than three colors in your pool area. Otherwise, this can make your pool area look like an abstract of irrelevant colors.

9: Consider Maintenance Requirements Of Tile For Pool

You need to consider the maintenance requirements of the tile you are planning to choose. This is important because if the tile is high maintenance it may cause a lot of expenses for you. Also, some tiles require labor-intensive maintenance. Therefore, all these maintenance factors need to be considered carefully.

10: Ask For Samples And Installation Information

Samples help you understand how a tile will look in your pool area. Therefore, going to a trusted tile supplier and asking for samples is a good part of your purchase. You should also ask a tile consultant or a professional about the cost of installation and the time period required to do the installation. This is important because hiring a professional can help you save time and energy.
