Jiangsu Province has emerged as a national leader in new energy storage, with officials announcing at a December 17 press conference hosted by State Grid Nanjing Power Supply Company that the province currently boasts the largest capacity in China. By the end of November, Jiangsu's total new energy storage capacity had reached nearly 6 GW, and an additional 1 GW is expected to come online by the end of December, strengthening energy security for the winter season.

New energy storage systems are a cornerstone of virtual power plants and next-generation power systems. At the press conference, the Nanjing Virtual Power Plant Management Center was officially inaugurated. The new center will integrate various adjustable load resources across the city, foster the development of virtual power plant market participants, and facilitate efficient engagement in market transactions.

"Jiangsu is at the forefront of building modern power systems, with its new energy storage capacity ranking first in the country," said Qi Yusong, Director of the Jiangsu Provincial Energy Bureau. He noted that during this summer's heatwave, as electricity demand soared to record highs, innovative measures such as new energy storage systems played a key role in maintaining public safety and supporting economic stability.

As the pace of modern power system development accelerates, Jiangsu continues to expand its energy storage projects. By the end of December, the province will add another 1 GW of capacity, further solidifying its leadership in the sector and enhancing its energy resilience.
