Bought a 4 pack and a 2 pack of the walnut slats for under my kitchen peninsula bar area. This is a real wood veneer with a nice even grain, NOT a cheesy printed plastic laminate. It comes pale and unfinished, which is to be expected. You ideally apply a finish that both protects the wood and brings out its luster. Easy stuff if you use a wipe on finish. I used General Finishes Arm R Seal because I wasted really good protection in my kick panel application, but a cheaper wipe on polyurethane or danish oil would be fine. (See pic of small uninstalled remnant for the walnut wood grain after finishing).
Slats are held to the felt by staples, which seems a little delicate, but it gets the job done. A few slats were imperfectly spaced, but most were even to the eye. They were not even in length on the ends, but this didn’t matter because I was cutting them down with my track saw for installation. The felt backing is thick and fairly rigid (good). Installed with a moderate dose of grabber adhesive and maybe 6-10 black screws per panel. They include screws, btw.
My unfortunate experience: My fault, not a fault of the product, but the walnut (once finished) looked too dark under my counter with my also-dark kitchen cabinets in the background. I ended up basically redoing the veneer by applying a light maple wood iron on edge banding over each strip (covering up the beautiful walnut 😭) and routing away the excess. Pain in the rear! unfortunately, then the maple looked too light/too yellow against my cool white/grey counters! Ahhhh! So I applied two light coats of grey gel stain and 2 more coats of finish and … finally looks good … almost like the color of the walnut before it finished … ironic. (See installed pic). Be careful you pick the right color and you’ll probably be very satisfied.
