Where do I get this type of protective &#;sleeve&#; material to put around like hydraulic hoses and etc.? I called my Deere dealer and he knew what I was talking about but didn&#;t know what the name of it&#;s called or where to get it. The hose, cable or whatever you want to protect just goes inside of it.

Plus what&#;s it called? Thanks

Parker calls it Partek Nylon Protective Sleeving.
Any hydraulic suppy store should be able to get it or something similar.

I make a plastic spiral cut hose protector. It is super easy and fast. It cost about 40-50 cents per foot. And you can wrap one hose or a dozen. Just make a cutter and buy a role of black plastic pipe at Menards. You will have a life time supply for under a hundred.

Just take a pipe that will slip fit over plastic hose. Then drill a hole near one end just larger than 3/8". Then weld a 3/8" nut over the hole. Then take a angle grinder and cut into a bolt leaving 1/4" of thread. The cut should be from both sides of the nut making a triangle wedge. Next put a jam nut on the bolt and thread into the pipe. Turn your bolt to make about a 3/4-1" spiraling cut. Weld any handle on you want. I just have two 6" pipes perpendicular to the 10" slip fit pipe that are 6" long.

I can make about five feet per minute just by hand. I can post pictures in a couple of days if needed Von WC Ohio

That's not true. I've put on over ft of that sleeving with ends crimped on every hose. It can be tight but the fittings can be crimped before installing sleeving. Lone Wolf Picker

This is what most of the OEM's are using, made right here in MN.  The exact same as Central Hydraulics sells and A&I products.  It is not cheap and unless you buy from a reseller you have to buy a roll from a distributor.  Hartfiel Automation in MN is a distributor.

I made this to cut plastic water pipe. It wraps on any hose if wrapping one hose use 1/2" or if multiple hoses and wires use 5/8".
I have wrapped skidloader attachments, backhoe hoses, extenda how hoses, 4wd center hoses, loader hoses, grain cart, end dump semi trailer, and many others. It goes on easy and is still flexible. Also it helps with hoses getting cought and is abrasion resistant.

When I bought a valve for my loader it come with a couple of feet of hose wrap and I put it on and thought it worked great but when I went to buy some more the dealer wanted 11$ a foot so I started making it.

Thanks for posting these pictures for me it really gives me a better idea of how you made this. What size pipe did you use for the hose to go through? Plus what size of plastic piping have you used this on? I&#;m going to try make one of these someday, it looks like a simple but very effective way so make this spiral piping.

Very neat idea thanks for sharing it with us.

Could you post a picture of the "cutter" bolt removed so we can better see the angle profile ground on the end of it.

Also your spirals look very even and uniform how do you control the rate at which it cuts through the pipe ? does it kind of advance at it's own natural rate or is there some other trick to getting it to advance the same distance with each revolution ?

Is it best to clamp one end of the pipe in a vice or just hold the poly pipe in one hand and advance the cutter with the other ?

Looks like a wonderful alternative to the high dollar hose wraps.

Wondering about setting up a cutter in a powered pipe threader. Could make a whole roll of wrap in real short order.

Good questions Von, I was wondering about the even spirals and feeding also. I like your suggestion on the power fed pipe feeding. Just thinking out loud here since I don&#;t have such a machine I was wondering if one could hook up to a 1/2&#; drill somehow to feed or pull the pipe? Might have to think on this for awhile. I just turn it by hand. If you pipe is long just put the coil by your feet and lean against the bench and the coil itself keeps the pipe from turning. But if your piece is short clamp it to something like a vice. Also about a month ago I found a pipe treader and was thinking of making it powered.

Here is a pic of how to cut the bolt. Take a angle grinder with a 1/4" disc and cut in from both sides. Then when left with just a wedge use a chainsaw file to get sharper.

The bolt angle in the pipe determine s the thickness of spiral. I like 3/4"-1"
