Rapid Build and High Strength for Flat Areas
Woven Roving provides an inexpensive means to laminate large, flat areas that call for rapid build-up and high strength reinforcement. It is not suited for applications that require conformability.
Woven roving is often used with chopped strand mat (CSM) to reinforce other materials and make repairs. In this specific case, it should be used with polyester or vinyl ester resin only, as the CSM keeps it from being compatible with epoxy. Otherwise, woven roving is compatible with all of the resins on this site.
Features
-
Inexpensive and fast way to laminate large, flat areas.
-
Great for repairs or quick build up.
Tips
-
Woven roving should be used with mat whenever bonding to plywood or making repairs.
-
Will require a finer fabric to block print.
-
Fabrics need to be oriented so the fiber yarns run parallel to the expected loads. If extra strength is needed in a different direction, another ply must be added at an angle to the first. The most common angles are +/- 45 degrees.

Shipping
Folded prepacks are typically shipped in a small box, or packaged in a box with other items on your order. Rolled fabrics ship in a long (45", 53", or 62") box. Click below on the "What to expect when you order Fabric" video to see how rolled fabrics are cut and shipped each time you order.
Sizes
Woven Roving This fabric is sold by the linear yard, either as a prepackaged quantity or by continuous yardage. Prepacks This fabric is available in pre-cut lengths that measure one yard (#223-F, folded package), three yards (#223-B, roll), and five yards (#223-C, roll). Each is packaged and sold separately. For your convenience, these "prepacks" can be purchased in any combination. However, if the length for any one fabric totals 10 yards or more, we suggest you purchase it in continuous, "cut to length" yardage. Continuous, "Cut to Length" Yardage If you know in advance that you intend to purchase 10 yards or more of any one fabric, it should be ordered in continuous, "cut to length" yardage. In this case, fabric will be cut once according to the total yardage ordered, and customers receive a price-per-yard discount as compared to prepacks. Quantity discounts continue to deepen as the yardage increases for any one cut of one fabric.

ROVING
Woven roving is a heavy, coarse fabric that builds up thickness quickly and adds strength. It is popular in boat building especially when used with chopped strand mat. The mat helps the woven roving adhere well to subsequent layers.
Woven roving is best used on large flat areas.
Gun roving is meant to be used with a chopper gun that cuts the strands into small pieces. It is typically used with polyester and vinylester resin.
