Benefits of Pet Screens

There is no question that dogs and cats make wonderful companions and oftentimes turn out to become beloved members of our family. But even the best trained, best-behaved pet has good and bad days or experiences a little over-excitement from time to time. Let us be honest, sometimes our furred friends wreak havoc on our screens.

While trimming their claws can help, when a happy-go-lucky, energized big dog accidentally jumps up&#;or when your kitty gets the zoomies or into the catnip&#;on your screen, their claws can leave holes or tears in most fiberglass screens. Sometimes, if our pets become frightened and they do not understand, the first place they may go is bolting to a door, running up a screened porch or even window too, which can significantly weaken a screen should it happen time and time again.

Fortunately, there is a solution, and that is calling us to help you replace your screens with scientifically proven, pet-resistant screens that can withstand the rambunctiousness of many pets, large or small.

What are Pet Screens?

Pet screens are specifically made to withstand the unique experiences of having pets. The material itself is completely safe for pets and humans too.

Tough, Rugged Construction, and Material.

Pet screens use specially engineered and designed materials that can withstand the rigors of weight, claws, and nips of pets and wild critters. These screens are made with special vinyl-coated polyester which is 7 times heavier and stronger than the traditional fiberglass screens and aluminum wire screens often used in homes across the country.

Vinyl-coated polyester mesh is engineered and woven to be tougher, resilient, and more durable. Sturdy construction and using the highest quality of materials allows our pet screens to minimize tears caused by pets by chewing or raking claws or nails against it.

Not Just for Domestic Pets.

Anyone that has lived with squirrels or raccoons may be well familiar with these hungry little critters and their destructive nature. Sharp teeth and little claws may easily tear apart a fiberglass screen for them to frolic and further damage anything behind the screen. Furniture, plants, and more can be destroyed if they manage to make their way inside your home. A pet resistant screen can no doubt withstand the gnawing and scratching of wild animals too.

Given that the screens are also made to withstand the impact of most large pets too, pet screens can withstand the exciting push or tap from most happy toddlers as well.

Replacement is Easy

Replacing your old screens with pet screens is relatively easy and will save you from having to constantly be replacing screens as you may already be doing due to pet damages. If you are handy around the house and love a DIY project, replacing old screens with a pet-resistant screen will be surprisingly easy. Everything you need to do your replacement is easy to access and affordable, too, with spline, spline tools, pre-cut, pre-measured custom pieces, an entire roll, or per linear foot.

  • Pry up the screen spline. If your old screen spline is not damaged, keep it to re-use it, otherwise, make sure to have a new spline on hand.
  • Stretch the new pet-screen tightly over the frame so it overlaps retaining grooves around the edges, leaving extra screen overhang to pull tightly. Make sure to lay it down curved, or concave side down. You can use clamps to hold the screen taut while you work.
  • Crease the screen around the frame and begin to place the spline in the channel. Start on one side of the screen to the other and do not worry too much about getting the screen overly tight. Use your fingers to work the spline in.
  • Next, press the spline into the frame by using a rolling spline tool. If the tool cannot reach the corners, use a flat-head screwdriver to press the spline into the corners.
  • Last, carefully cut away any excess using a utility knife and you are done!

Lower Light Transmission

As the weave of pet screens are thicker and dense, one of the unexpected benefits is lower light transmission. This means less heat from the sun flooding in through your windows, lowering inside temperatures slightly and helping you save on energy consumption, and fewer UV rays that can damage floors, furniture, and walls, too.

The benefits of pet screens go beyond just pets too. Reduce the effort of having to constantly replace fiberglass screens, lowering money spent on constant patch kits and repairs while allowing your beloved pet to roam freely in their home. If you are looking to make that change today from fiberglass to pet-resistant, we can help! Check out or range of pet-screens and make you and your pets happier, healthier, and safer than ever. \"\"

Pet Screen and Why it's Worth Investing a Little More

Dogs and cats make wonderful companions for your family, but even the most well-behaved pet can wreak havoc on your home on occasion. For example, the screens surrounding your pool or patio enclosure may have suffered some shredding from the claws of your pets, significantly weakening the screens and potentially leaving a hole for escape. Fortunately, a Phifer pet screen offers durability far beyond the strength of regular screens. A look at the differences and similarities between the two screen materials can help you understand the value of pet screen for your home.

Construction and Material
Pet screens are designed with the destructive potential of pets in mind. The materials used are strong and resistant to the claws of a cat or the brute strength of a dog. The screen is constructed from polyester yarn coated with PVC, making it about seven times stronger than regular screens. By comparison, cheaper enclosures and screen doors are constructed with the same lightweight materials used to make window screens.  If you have a dog or cat, it&#;s vital to invest in pet screen for your pool or patio enclosure.

Visibility, Airflow and Pests
Some homeowners are concerned that the durable materials used in pet screens will reduce the visibility and airflow in their pool or patio enclosure. Although the individual strands that make up a dog or cat proof screen are thicker, the strands are placed further apart to avoid significantly impacting visibility and airflow. You may notice some slight visual differences between regular screens and pet screens, but the difference is negligible for most people.  You&#;ll still be able to enjoy the fresh air in your enclosed patio without worrying about your cat or dog destroying the screen enclosure.

Many homeowners choose to enclose their pools and patios to avoid harassment and bites from perpetually present pests. Although the gaps between strands are wider in pet screens, they&#;re still close enough together to protect you and your family from pests.

Simple Installation
The process for installing pet resistant screens is exactly the same as the process for regular screens. Existing door and enclosure frames can be refitted with pet screens. If you have a regular screen that is beginning to fail due to your pets, you can have it replaced easily.
