The standard Series 100 Half Gear Coupling consists of a flexible and rigid half. The flexible half is a standard Series 100 half coupling consisting of an outer sleeve and an inner hub and the rigid half consists a flanged hub.

Half Geared coupling are most commonly used in floating shaft applications or on line shafting to accommodate axial expansion, these gear couplings pilot shafts and also compensate for up to 1 ½ angular misalignment. Also the rigid hubs can accommodate larger shaft diameters than the gear hubs.

What is the difference between full gear coupling and half ...

Full Gear Couplings :

A full gear coupling has a toothed hub which is fixed in both driver and driven shaft, and sleeves which has internal teeth meshing with the hub. Below is the cut section of a full gear coupling, this will make you understand better.

Half gear coupling :

A half gear coupling has a toothed hub on the driven shaft along with an internal geared sleeve and the driver shaft has a rigid hub. The rigid hub is bolted to the sleeve of the driven shaft. You can understand with the following figure -

In both the figures, O-ring is for holding the lubricating grease inside the coupling and preventing the ingression of outside air and moisture.
